LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS

I love to paint the landscape. But the scene has to be extraordinary to get my attention. Perhaps its the light or just the way the elements in the scene are arranged that make it significant to me. Again...light is the main player in all these pieces. I'm not partial to one medium or another when it comes to landscapes although, at least for me, pastels lend themselves beautifully to plein air (on location painting) and the scene usually paints itself with them.

I'm basically a romantic at heart. I lived in California

peeked over my shoulder while I was panting this and said,
"Getting homesick, hmm?"

This little spot of the Discovery Trail caught my eye in the early fall before the summer gave up its lush green color.

"Autumn at Ozette"
Pastel Painting
$350.00

Autumn colors and the last sigh of summer inspired this painting. Fall color isn't common where I live because most of the trees around here don't change to these brilliant colors. I stumbled on this spot quite by accident.

"Interlude"
Pastel Painting

Pastel Painting of Light breaking after a storm

I love those moments when the sun is low on the horizon and light shoots out under a
storm cloud brightening the landscape and making it appear brighter than the sky.
This painting is all about drama.

The Dungeness River starts in the Olympic Mountains and runs down to the Srait of Juan de Fuca.

I was out looking desperately for someplace to paint in order to

"Discovery Trail"
Pastel Painting

Pastel Painting of a walking trail

The Discovery Trail winds from Port Angeles, WA east through Sequim and will eventually be extended all the way to Port Townsend. It is a paved trail that meanders over meadows and back yards, beside beaches and through deep woods. This stretch is near my home and I walk it daily.

"The Wash"
Pastel Painting

One very hot afternoon in Corona, CA, I went hiking with a friend. It was supposed to be an afternoon of painting but the heat was too intense. As the sun was getting low, I snapped a photo of the wash and Pastel Painting of a California Canyon and Washlater worked this out from memory.
